Our Mission: World Refugee Day Chicago is an event-based community group that seeks to celebrate and uplift refugees while creating meaningful relationships across local communities. The intention of World Refugee Day Chicago is to build a sense of agency, not charity. It is important that the structures of support and the design of the event directly come from the refugee and immigrant communities, with long term reciprocal relationships as the core. The event planning committee consists of refugees themselves and representatives of refugee support organizations. Our Vision: World Refugee Chicago imagines a future where inclusivity and unity embrace our communities, where refugees, asylees, and immigrants are celebrated in all their fullness. With more uncertainty, xenophobic immigration policies, and conflict that exacerbate forced displacement, World Refugee Day is more important now to celebrate than ever. |
